Starting the journey to becoming a foster carer with FosteringMatters is a big decision, and we want to ensure that you feel confident in taking the next steps. Our team is available 24/7 to provide support, and with comprehensive training available, you can rest assured that we’ll be with you every step of the way.
Ready to begin?
To start the application process, simply get in touch! We're always happy to chat, and you can reach us by phone, email, or via online application form. Our experienced social workers will ask you a few questions so that we can get to know you better.
Get a cup of tea ready!
We’ll schedule a visit to your home to ensure it’s suitable for a young person. Our social workers will provide you with an application pack, which you can fill out in your own time or with our help.
Complete your application pack!
Once we receive your completed application pack, we’ll begin the necessary checks, which include identity and enhanced DBS checks, as well as personal and professional references.
Meet your assessing social worker!
You’ll be assigned an experienced assessing social worker, who will ask questions about your background, including your education and employment history. This is a great opportunity to share why you’d make an excellent foster carer.
Foster Panel!
Once your assessment is complete and all checks are in place your application will be presented to the foster panel of independent professionals who will ask any relevant questions and you can ask questions also. The foster panel will make a recommendation regarding your suitability to foster to the agency decision-maker.
Final decision!
The panel will make a recommendation to our agency decision-maker, who will make the final decision based on all the evidence presented. We’ll inform you of the decision within five working days.
Welcome aboard!
If your application is approved, you’ll become an approved foster carer with FosteringMatters. We’ll assign you a dedicated supervising social worker, who will be there to provide support and guidance as you welcome a young person into your home.
